Partner Michael Callaghan joined Wortley Byers from another Essex practice in February 2008. He has established a strong reputation among both clients and professional contacts as a highly experienced and effective adviser.

His work has a particular emphasis on commercial property disputes including all landlord and tenant matters such as renewals, dilapidations, rent reviews, forfeitures, service charges and advice on lease interpretations. He also provides regular support to the firm’s Property Department in terms of risk analysis on certain matters. More recently, Michael’s work has included a greater emphasis on how clients need to consider the effect of the economic downturn. The majority of his workload involves advising landlords, tenants and their professional advisers on their rights and liabilities in contentious property cases.

In addition Michael conducts general commercial litigation, in particular contract and commercial disputes. Michael also has experience of contentious planning law.

He qualified as an Accredited Mediator with both CEDR (2002) and the ADR Group (2001). He is serving as Treasurer of the Mid-Essex Law Society.
