We can trace the story of Wortley Byers Law LLP back to Stamp Wortley – a well-established solicitors firm with offices in Brentwood, Chelmsford and Witham.
On 1 January 1967, the Brentwood branch of Stamp Wortley joined forces with another Brentwood firm, Gerald Byers Lewis & Co and the new firm became Wortley Byers & Co. The Chelmsford and Witham branches continued separately as Stamp Wortley.
On 15 December 1969, Wortley Byers & Co moved to Regency House in Brentwood.
By 1997 the name had shortened to Wortley Byers Law, and the firm leased a new office premises in Crown Street to accommodate its continuing expansion. Subsequently, the part of the firm operating from Crown Street moved to the top floor of Cathedral Place, and in January 2003 the rest of the firm transferred operations there, taking over the other floors of the building.
